Aayirathil Oruvan – Kollywood’s Avatar

Selvaraghavan’s two year production Aayirathil Oruvan is not up to the expectations but it really rocks. It’s a good fantansy movie in Tamil after a long back.

The movie starts with two young girls traveling to an Island in Vietnam in search of lost Cholans ( 12th century people of South Tamil Nadu). Karthi plays the role of a Coolie who accompanies Reema Sen and Andrea to Vietnam. There they come to know that they’ve to cross seven barriers ( tribes, snakes, sand holes, hunger, thirst.. oops I forgot the other two) made by the lost Cholas.

They adventurously cross ‘em and find the Cholans’ civilization. The first half ends when they get mad coz of some loud noise. Then they’re caught by the Cholans and taken back to their caves where their king( Parthiban) comes into scene. The Cholans were haunted by hunger, even their king can’t find any way to help ‘em.

The movie takes a twist when the villainous character of Reema sen is revealed. She actually came there to take their family god’s sculpture back. She betrays the king and escapes with the statue. Then the king realizes that Karthi is the One in a thousand and the rest of the movie is dedicated to the humiliation of the Cholan woman by the Indian army and finally the movie ends with a To be continued note.

This movie is full of blood and violence, eroticism and adventure as well. The songs are average but the bgm is good. You can watch it for the picturisation, direction and the script. It’s surely a milestone in Tamil Cinema.
